Drunk Russian Sailor Crashes Ship

A Russian sailor was almost EIGHT times over the alcohol limit when he crashed his 7,000-tonne ship and wrote it off, as report states.

The 36-year-old chief officer fell asleep on the bridge of the 394ft-long Lysblink Seaways after downing half a litre of rum and ran it into the Scottish coast.

The cargo ship ran aground at full speed and remained struck for two days in February pounding against the rocks due to adverse weather.

The hull was damaged and 25 tonnes of marine gas oil leaked into the water near Kilchoan on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, Lochabe and the ship had to be scrapped.

The Marine Accident Investigations Branch (MAIB) said the unnamed sailor failed to change course because he was drowsy from drinking too much.

Their report revealed a series of errors in the running of the ship, including an alarm being switched off and no lookout on the bridge.
